We’ve all been hearing about Polyamory, and many of us have been reading about and experimenting with it, with mixed results. But what is Polyamory, and what is possible there for skilled and intrepid adventurers who dare to love more?

Is Polyamory like swinging? Is it about creating systems of agreements and limitations to make it safe to realize our fantasies of having many lovers? Can it be much more than any of those?

What if there’s a way to fully honor both our need for stable consistent loving relationships that deepen and enrich us, and our intrinsic freedom and passion to follow the energy of relating wherever it may take us? What if there’s a way to do this that honors our partners as fully as ourselves, naturally and without compromise? And what if, above all, this can provide a fast track to authentic spiritual awakening?

We long to be deeply met in the profound intimacy that enduring committed relationships provide, and we need the container this provides for the deepest healing of our hearts. But we chafe against the tradeoff assumed in the patriarchal patterns of insularity, ownership, and control we’ve inherited as defaults. Those collusions to avoid triggering each other’s fears and wounds rob us of the opportunity to step up for each other as allies in Awakening. The “nuclear family” has it’s place, but in it’s shadow side, it can function as a divide and conquer strategy of social control. We need the village back! A new kind of village…

He was a founding member of a land based polyamorous community in Mendocino County California in the 90’s, where one of the other households were the people who first coined the word polyamory, and their 5 person marriage.
